The green transformation of China’s civil aviation industry generates new business opportunities and a vast space for innovation for industry players, both nationally and globally.

Civil aviation authorities are committed to advancing green transformation to ensure the sustainable and healthy development of the industry, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

With a view to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060, China is accelerating the transformation towards a clean, low-carbon energy consumption structure.

The period of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) is essential for the civil aviation industry to shift from energy conservation and emission reduction to green and low-carbon development, said Zhang Qing , a CAAC official, at a recent press conference. .

“Looking at peak carbon and carbon neutrality goals, we will protect the lifeline of safety and balance ambition and pragmatic working style. Zhang said.

CAAC will see carbon reduction as the key to promoting green transformation, which emphasizes intelligence, greener energy and reducing emissions.

INNOVATION MOVING FORWARD

Civil aviation authorities and industry players have undertaken various efforts such as modernizing infrastructure, improving operations management and introducing new technologies.

On November 12, Chinese airline Xiamen and the Industrial Bank jointly presented the country’s first carbon-neutral ticket, an initiative to generate efforts from various parties to boost low-carbon flights.

While a passenger purchases such a carbon neutral ticket, a portion of the fare will be placed in the marine carbon sink fund to offset a portion of the flight’s carbon emissions. The ticket and the flight will be certified carbon neutral.

The first batch of carbon sink funds will be used in the ecological restoration of the mangrove forest, which is a highly valued ecosystem with rich biodiversity, according to Xiamen Airlines.

One of the world’s largest express transportation companies, FedEx focused on green, digital and efficiency at the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE).

“In China, with key initiatives such as vehicle electrification, sustainable facilities and paperless shipping, FedEx is on track to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations and achieve sustainability,” said Eddy Chan, senior vice president of FedEx and president of FedEx China.

The country is working to ensure that basic air transport services reach more people, especially those living in remote areas, by coordinating the development of inter-city and regional air services.

“It will be more fuel efficient and more cost effective to use the correct aircraft models on the right air routes.” Wang added that by focusing on the development of 30- to 78-seat aircraft, the company aims to play its role in serving the regional aviation market in China.
