Western and Central Railway Wins Full Shield for Health Care, Environment and Cleanliness at 66th National Railways Awards


Western Railway won the prestigious Comprehensive Health Care Shield for 2021 at the 66th National Railways Awards announced today by the Department of Railways. Likewise, Central Railway also won two shields – Environment and Cleanliness Shield – jointly with Diesel Loco Modernization Works, Patiyala and Safety Shield jointly with Western Railway. These prizes will be handed out on New Years Day in celebration of Railroad Week.

WR has been commended for being at the forefront of adopting advanced technologies, the latest medical treatment procedures, and creating a robust infrastructure for treating COVID patients in the shortest possible time.

Confident of the development, a senior WR executive said, “The full healthcare shield for the year 2021 is awarded to Western Railway for the second year in a row for its outstanding healthcare services in 2021. In 2020, WR also won the Ministry of Railways’ comprehensive health care shield.

“Apart from that, the WR jointly won the personal management shield with East Coast Railway and the civil engineering shield with North Western and South East Central Railway,” officials said.

WR’s Jagjivan Ram Hospital (JRH) in Mumbai Central has earned the distinction of being the first Indian Railway Hospital to be dedicated as a COVID hospital that has also treated BMC referred patients.

PMJY treatment facilities for eligible citizens have been opened at Jagjivan Ram Hospital. One of the beneficiaries underwent a SURGERY BYPASS under this plan. JRH’s operating theater, intensive care unit and labor room have been upgraded with the installation of a negative pressure facility to meet covid requirements. Superspecialty services in cardiology, cardiac surgery, gastroenterology, gastrointestinal surgery, joint replacements and cochlear implants are provided at JRH.

“Apart from that, oxygen generating plants have been installed in all Western Railway rail hospitals and they are functioning properly,” said an official from WR.

Previously, Central Railway Divisional Railway Hospital, Kalyan, received the National Energy Conservation Award-2021 for energy efficiency in the hospital sector.

According to a senior officer, Central Railway makes continuous efforts to save energy.

Various measures adopted by Kalyan Central Railway Hospital, such as installing rooftop solar power plant, energy efficient BLDC fans, replacing conventional light fixtures with LED lights, supplying BEE star air conditioners , etc. resulted in a 36.5% increase in energy. It also resulted in an increase in renewable energy production of 63.48%. These measures have made it possible to reduce the consumption of electrical units by 49.74%. Apart from this, solar power plants have also been installed by CR at its main stations including CSMT.
